Visitng the boat!

What a Beautiful day.

Rogan got to go down below. Opa was going to put him to work straight away, but he fussed enough to make him change his mind. :)

After the boat we also went for a nice walk to Golden Garden Park. The fall trees made for a spectacular backdrop. Rogan was actually awake for most of the walk and got his first real taste of the Puget Sound.

Bath Time!

Sebastian has his perch, making sure Mommy was doing a sufficient job of cleaning behind Rogan's ears.

Even though it doesn't look like he's enjoying himself, he actually does like bath time. During his last bath he started kicking his legs and looking down at the splashing with his usual intensity.

Once he's out of the tub he makes sure to put his clean toes to the test standing and…SITTING!

He had a little help from Daddy in this picture, but he can nearly sit up on his own now. So exciting! He's got a ways to go before crawling, however, because his arms aren't quite keeping pace with his legs. As Opa always says, “We need to get him a calf and keep it in the yard so that Rogan can bench press it to get strong like Samson.”

Man it's fun to watch them grow! Andrea and I hope you are all enjoying it as much we are!

Two Month Checkup – SHOTS!!!! :(

Yesterday was a milestone, Rogan's 2 month checkup. This is the checkup that all parents who hate shots dread. We still haven't decided, even after the fact, whether it's tougher on the parents or on the baby. Rogan got 4 out of a possible 5 shots. Yuck. It's the first time we've heard the “I'm hurt” cry. Not a pleasant sound for sure. He made it through O.K. and is doing better today, just needed some time to sleep it off. Problem is, he has trouble falling asleep and it only compounds the problem when your poor little legs hurt. :(

On a much brighter note, Rogan is very healthy. He weighed in at a solid 11 lbs. and measured 22.5″ long. His head was 39cm. That put him in the mid 30th percentile for all three. While that may seem a little low, Rogan is very lean. He has a lot of muscle and doesn't have a lot of rolls on his arms, legs and belly. Andrea keeps joking that she's feeding him non-fat milk :)

Rogan is smiling and cooing all the time these days. Month three has us looking forward to his first laugh, some grabbing, rolling over with the possibility of some crawling and, dun dun duuuuuun, a first tooth?!?

Andrea got a new carrier today called a Moby Wrap. Even though it is just a big piece of fabric it makes for a very convenient and versatile carrier. It will grow with Rogan. When he gets to big to be carried in the front it easily converts to carry on the hip. Nice!

Getting situated is a trick at first.

So far Rogan is a fan, especially of facing out mode.

Take me to the Pumpkin Patch!

Andrea and I took Rogan to the Remlinger Farms u-pick pumpkin patch today! It was a gorgeous day, in fact we were so warm we walked around in our t-shirts! That's pretty impressive for mid-October around here.

Taking Rogan to the pumpkin patch was one of those experiences that both Andrea and I had been excited about since they day we found out we were pregnant. We talked about the day when we could go get a pumpkin with our baby as a family. What a great feeling it is to have one of those dreams come true.

Here is Andrea and Rogan picking out Rogan's first pumpkin!

A great family memory!

As you can see there were quite a few pumpkins left to choose. This year they had a lot of really large pumpkins. As you can see it really was a great day to be out and about. Rogan, unfortunately, slept through most of our time at the farm. He woke up to get something to eat near the end, and opened his eyes occasionally to see where he was, but for the most part he slept the whole day. Who could blame him for being sleepy though, this has been one very stimulating and exhausting weekend.

After the pumpkin patch we went over to Nana's for dinner. Nana had a new toy for Rogan to try out.

Rogan will love this once his legs are long enough to reach the floor. :)

After such a great weekend how could a little guy feel any differently than this?

Rogan's first Road Trip.

Zach and Logan's first birthday party. As you can see, Rogan was super excited!

We left at 8am. We got all the way to Olympia before Rogan needed a snack. We stopped and filled up the baby and the car. Then we were back on the road. It was pretty easy going, no severe traffic to speak of. It was foggy the whole drive down, but otherwise very smooth. As you can see from the picture, Rogan was really excited when we passed into his first new state, Oregon!!!

Woo Hoo welcome to Oregon! :)

The party was great. Zach and Logan were dressed up like Mario and Luigi. The cake was an old 8-bit Nintendo system and Zach and Logan each had a controller as their cake. Super cute!

I can hear the Super Mario Brothers theme music now!

The birthday boys enjoyed their cake very much. Robyn and Aaron were smart, after the boys were finished they just picked them up, table cloth and all, and moved them straight to the bath. Nice thinking guys!

Since the party was close to Halloween and babies often have more costumes/clothes than they have occasions to wear them, Aaron and Robyn decided to make this an (optional) costume party. That means that all the babies got dressed up and none of the parents (Aaron and Robyn did though). We dressed up Rogan as a ghost. Grandpa Steve picked out the hat. Casper eat your heart out!

Playtime with SuperBaby!

Rogan knows his daddy. This is the face I get when I get home, usually followed by a smile which we weren't able to get on camera.

He's mimicking faces now too, very well I might add. :)

Of course with all playtime, it's not all fun and games.

Overall though, superbaby was fun. Here is a little video I put together. It's up on RoganVision as well.

In general, Rogan is still sleeping well. We usually get between 3-4 hours of sleep at a time between feedings. On the nights when Rogan is particularly fussy I take him into the nursery and rock him to sleep. We have the “White Noise” CD playing in the background. We've found the “Rain on the windowsill” is very effective. Not only that but it's not completely annoying like the hair dryer. I've been so tired recently that I fall asleep in the chair with Rogan usually between 2-3 hours. It's nice being in a rocking chair, when I twitch my feet I rock us both back to sleep. The other night after I'd moved back into bed I caught myself moving my feet to try and rock myself. Funny :) ]]>

A weekend adventure!

Nice stacking job Alex :)

Rogan finally settled down in the evening after having a little Gripe Water to settle his stomach. He did sleep well that night fortunately.

This morning Rogan gave Andrea and me a scare by spitting up a little blood. We called the 24-hour nurse hot line right away. They got back to us pretty quickly and said call your pediatrician. Our pediatrician wasn't nearly as quick to return our phone call. After nearly an hour of waiting, that seemed much longer, we finally got a call back. By then Rogan had spit up again but without a trace of blood. That eased our minds a bit and helped the on-call doctor to say with confidence that it wasn't serious, and as long as we didn't see any other blood we shouldn't worry. Phew!

Rogan has been back to normal so far today. Eating, spitting up, sleeping, smiling (yep he does that with regularity now), and of course pooping.

Now for a little funny pictures to brighten your day.

Like father like son…OR like son like Father?!?! :)

Rogan sporting his red socks to support the “Red Sox” in their post season journey. He's hoping to see Rockies v Red Sox world series! Andrea actually dressed him and had no idea it was the first day of post season play ;) ]]>
